Modern Workshop Diagnostics: Adapting flexibly to new requirements
Modern vehicles are becoming increasingly complex and connected. As a result, the requirements for diagnostics, maintenance, and repair are changing as well. Today’s workshop diagnostic systems need to do more than simply read fault codes. They support software updates and service processes and need to work across different vehicle platforms and IT environments.
For vehicle and component manufacturers, this creates a key challenge: diagnostic processes need to work consistently across different vehicle lines, markets, and service organizations while remaining flexible enough to meet specific requirements.
This is where modular diagnostic solutions come into play. Softing TDX is an aftersales software platform that enables manufacturers to create, centrally manage, and deploy customized workshop diagnostic systems across their service organizations. The platform covers a range of tasks, from vehicle diagnostics and ECU flashing to guided service and maintenance processes.
Modular from engineering to the workshop
Softing TDX consists of three core components. Softing TDX.studio is used to create workshop diagnostic systems and adapt them to specific use cases. In addition to diagnostic sequences and user interfaces, technical documentation and videos can also be integrated.
Softing TDX.server handles central administration and distribution. Users, permissions, diagnostic content, and updates can be managed centrally and made available to different service organizations. The current generation is based on cloud architecture and can be integrated into existing enterprise IT environments.
In the workshop, service technicians use Softing TDX.workshop. The application provides the diagnostic and service functions required for day-to-day work, including fault memory access, ECU programming, software updates, guided troubleshooting, and vehicle reports.
This modular structure allows diagnostic interfaces and processes to be adapted to different requirements without having to develop a separate solution for every use case.
Standards and centralized data management
Established industry standards are an important foundation for modern diagnostic solutions. Softing TDX supports ODX, OTX, and UDS as well as interfaces such as ISO 22900 (MVCI / D-PDU API) and SAE J2534 PassThru. This allows standardized diagnostic data and processes to be used across different vehicle platforms.
At the same time, centralized management of diagnostic and service data is becoming increasingly important. With the cloud-based architecture of Softing TDX, diagnostic content and software can be centrally deployed and updated, while information from diagnostic and repair processes can be managed in one environment. This is particularly relevant for larger or internationally distributed service networks.
From workshop diagnostics to connected aftersales
The role of workshop diagnostic systems is changing significantly. In addition to diagnostics on the vehicle itself, the centralized provision of software and diagnostic content as well as integration into existing IT and service processes are becoming increasingly important.
Potential applications range from authorized workshops and mobile service technicians to component manufacturers, development departments, and service organizations.
Softing TDX brings development, administration, and workshop use together within a modular platform. Manufacturers can work with common technical foundations and standardized diagnostic processes while adapting their workshop diagnostic systems to different vehicles, markets, and service concepts.
As a result, workshop diagnostics are increasingly becoming an integral part of digital aftersales processes, extending well beyond traditional fault diagnostics on the vehicle.
