Softing DTS 9: New Generation of the All-in-One Engineering Tester Now Available!

Following the successful launch at pilot customers, the new generation of the high-performance and use-case-optimized Diagnostic Tool Set (Softing DTS 9) is now available. New functionalities enable even faster and more cost-efficient diagnostic development – exactly what is needed for the growing complexity of E/E architectures and shorter product development cycles. Softing DTS.monaco makes it possible for developers, engineers and technicians to create consistent diagnostic functions and sequences on the basis of international standards and to ensure that diagnostic communication works reliably over the entire value chain.

The highlights of the new product generation include, in particular, remote diagnostic support in the engineering network (remote diagnostics) and the display and recording of Ethernet communication (DoIP, Diagnostics over Internet Protocol). New functions in the area of OTX support, based on the latest standard, enable a perceptible increase in the speed of work thanks to automation and the ability to precisely solve individual problems with self-generated user interfaces. The integration of function-oriented diagnostics with the Smart Diagnostic Engine (Softing SDE) has now already made the leap to the next generation of “diagnostic systems”.

The Softing Diagnostic Tool Set 9 thus offers an all-in-one diagnostic solution for all use cases from ECU engineering and development to vehicle integration and Start of Production (SOP) – future-oriented, efficient and safe.

Remote Diagnostics in the Engineering Network

DoIP continues to gain importance not only because of the high bandwidth – required especially in flash programming. Softing DTS 9 is perfectly prepared for this in all diagnostic and communication applications. The product already enables the remote access of test specimens. For this purpose, the functions are implemented internally using a functional API which extends the runtime environment for the standards OTX and ODX. This interface, referred to as a Smart Diagnostic API (SDA), can be reached remotely which makes it possible for a second entity of the tester to connect up from a distance. This facilitates a whole range of new collaboration models: The engineer generates new software and makes this available centrally. A tester implements the software at an appropriate time and starts testing. If problems occur, the engineer can connect up remotely, carry out his/her own tests and correct any problems directly (remote software update) so that the actual tests in hand can be continued. This can save a lot of time and money, especially in globally operating teams, as travel can be avoided and expensive test resources shared.

Furthermore, the new DTS 9 platform offers international users multilingual capability with the provision of a German, English and Japanese translation of the user interfaces (other languages on request). This not only reduces the amount of training required but also leads to increased acceptance of the whole system, particularly in globally operating teams.

Individual Design of User Interface with OTX-based Monaco Controls

If the intuitively usable and flexibly configurable interface elements (SmartDiagnostic controls), available for all frequently used diagnostic functions in Softing DTS.monaco, need to be extended, OTX sequences can be integrated in the Monaco workspaces in the new generation. This means that entire release sequences, continuous operation controls and certifications can be safely incorporated into the Monaco workspaces to prevent operating errors. OTX allows you to freely define both the user interfaces and the stored diagnostic sequence, whether as an interactive test or (partially) automated. The test documentation can also be generated directly in a customized form in the procedure.

Customers who cannot invest large amounts in diagnostic development are thus given the option of using a continuous chain of user interfaces. In combination with the repair shop tester Softing TDX, it is possible to realize interdisciplinary, efficient working in the areas engineering tests, manufacturing and after-sales. ECU function developers can thus better understand the challenges of after-sales and manufacturing, and continuously improve vehicle diagnostics. For this purpose, they can directly use the user interfaces and sequences required there.

Clear, user-friendly and error-proof interfaces are one thing. With OTX, another advantage comes to the fore: As a standardized script language for diagnostic and test sequences, OTX makes it possible to integrate external interfaces. This means external libraries can be integrated, for example, which, among other things, are necessary for security authentication on ECUs and vehicles. Interactions with shares and networks are also possible to automatically store the results in a file system or the cloud.

All Highlights of Softing DTS Generation 9 at a Glance

  • Remote diagnostic support in the engineering network
  • Display and recording of Ethernet communication (DoIP)
  • New functions in the area of OTX support (latest OTX standard) for test automation and the creation of individual user interfaces
  • Integration of functional diagnostics with the Smart Diagnostic Engine (Softing SDE)
  • Extended functions in the areas of measurement and analysis
  • New graphical instruments for measuring and actuator diagnostics
  • Intuitive, touch-capable navigation and program structure
  • Recording of measured data in .csv
  • New licensing possibilities with an activation key and server licensing
  • Migration and conversion of the DTS8 interfaces and projects

Alongside system-specific licensing, the additional floating license mechanism ensures flexibility and saves our customers both time and money. Today's customers don’t need to worry about migrating to the new generation: Both existing DTS projects and OTX processes can be migrated and reused with the new software.
