µ Series – Field Bus Measurement Technology by Softing
Reliable measurements under extreme conditions.
The µ Series completes Softing's measurement technology portfolio. It enables top-quality and reliable measurements – even under extreme environmental conditions. At the same time, transmitting measured values via CAN enables simple integration into existing measurement environments.
The μ Series comprises a range of compact measurement modules connected via CAN. Examples of supported features include temperature measurements with thermocouples and resistive temperature sensors, a whole range of measuring bridges and active transducers as well as the acquisition of frequency- and time-based signals.
Their extremely low power consumption as well as diverse mounting possibilities underline the modules’ suitability for practical, regular use. CAN and power supply are combined on one connector and can thus be looped through from module to module. This enables simple wiring with point-to-point connections and standard cables.
The μ modules are supported by the SMT system software PEA. This makes it easy and fast to integrate them into complex SMT systems. In the case of pure CAN applications, it is also possible to record and evaluate measure data with standard CAN tools. The configuration software required to parameterize the modules generates the CANdb required for this purpose and is naturally available to our customers free of charge.
Areas of Application
As the μ Series requires little space and features an extremely sturdy design, it is perfect not only for use in classical lab applications but also in harsh application environments. It enables reliable measurements in extremely high or extremely low environmental temperatures as well as in moist and dirty conditions, or where vibrations have to be tolerated.
There are many advantages to acquiring measured values in close proximity to the measuring point in comparison to using central measuring systems. For example, the avoidance of long-distance analog transmission makes a major contribution to ensuring greater measuring accuracy while at the same time cutting down on the amount of cable needed around the measurement object. But even with limited space, difficult installation conditions or limited energy supply, the compact and power-saving µ Series comes up trumps. The modules always remain compatible to a whole range of different data acquisition and communication systems – thanks to standardized measured value transmission of the field bus components.
µT10K.2 – Measuring Temperatures with ThermocouplesThe µT10K.2 has 10 individually galvanically isolated measurement channels for measuring temperatures with thermocouples of the type K (NiCr-Ni). The measured values are transferred via CAN: The maximum data rate that can be set per channel is 100 SPS. The module was designed for use in a temperature range of -30 °C to +120 °C. The total power consumption is 450 mW.
µT06Pt.1 – Measuring Temperatures with PT100The µT06Pt.1 has six individually galvanically isolated measurement channels for measuring temperatures with PT100 temperature sensors. The measured values are transferred via CAN: The maximum data rate that can be set per channel is 100 SPS. The module was designed for use in a temperature range of -30 °C to +120 °C. The total power consumption is 600 mW.
