The automotive industry has realized that software is assuming an increasingly important role in vehicle technology. In the process, the number of lines of code in vehicles has risen many times over. To meet these requirements, the industry is cooperating more and more with technology companies. In this partnership, cloud technologies and mobile platforms are being explored to optimize software processes and digitize vehicle production. In the future, autonomous vehicle systems are conceivable that perform their own tests, updates and coding.

The complexity in the E/E architecture continues to increase - and with it the required test effort. This applies both with regard to the validation of functionalities and to ongoing regression tests of the test methods. The latter are of particular importance due to the strong creation of variants of vehicles, both in terms of functionality and via software and hardware variants released over time. Different motorizations, for example, are generated both via different engines and via coding.

The fields of innovation, electric and alternative drives, as well as increasing digitalization and automated driving, are of particular importance in the mobility of the future. We would like to know the professional view of an independent expert from the field of vehicle systems technology on this topic. To this end, we have arranged an interview with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Goß and would like to know how he views current developments in the automotive industry and their impact on standardization in vehicle diagnostics.

Meet Softing Automotive at the WCX World Congress Experience, April 18-20, 2023 in Detroit, MI, USA. On April 20 at 1:30 pm, Softing Automotive's Director of Business Development, Peter Subke, will speak about "UDSonCAN and OBDonUDS: CAN-Based Application Layer Protocols for the Diagnostic Communication between the In-Vehicle CAN and MVCI-Based External Test Equipment".

Shape the future of on-board monitoring and calibration systems. This presentation starts with a short overview of the legacy SAE J1979/ ISO 15031 that have been in use for the communication of an OBD scan tool and the OSD-Il system of combustion engine vehicles for decades. In addition, the presentation will provide an introduction to UDS and demonstrate how to use the unified diagnostic services for OBD on UDS, ZEV on UDS and globally harmonized OBD.

The on-demand webinar shows the latest CAN technology enhancements (CAN, CAN FD, CAN XL) support UDS, what the new SAE J1979 regulations mean in practice for diagnostic testing, and how OEMs and Tier 1s can benefit. It will also provide an introduction to coupling Kvaser's U100 interface with Softing's TDX diagnostic test development suite for on-road vehicle and mobile machinery maintenance. The latter includes protocol templates for UDS that, once developed, can be reused.

Another great milestone for the TCS team: Just in time for the Christmas season, the first diagnostic simulations are on their way to the customer. Digitization and digital transformation, as well as e-mobility, are topics that are currently keeping the automotive industry very busy. Trends such as remote work and cloud solutions as well as 4G and 5G technologies are currently in great demand. Among other things, they enable on-board access to the vehicle. And there are always new topics with regard to automation as well. In the area of diagnostics, the requirements are becoming increasingly complex, not least due to extensive safety measures.
